Members of the Brantford Police Service have charged a youth following an investigation into an incident involving an imitation firearm.
Officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a residential housing complex, located on Tollgate Road, after receiving a report of a person in possession of an offensive weapon at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Witnesses reported observing the accused, who was an occupant of a moving motor vehicle, holding what appeared to be a handgun and pointing it directly at the victim. During the incident, the accused also concealed their face by using a shirt as a makeshift balaclava-style mask. The suspect fled in a motor vehicle.
Police located the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Elgin St and Wayne Gretzky Parkway and the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The investigation determined the firearm to be a replica and that the accused and victim were known to one another.
As a result of the investigation, the 16-year-old male has been charged with:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Disguise with Intent
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Additionally, an 18-year-old female, who was also an occupant of the vehicle, was found to be in breach of a court-ordered condition prohibiting them from being in the area where the offence occurred. As a result, the second accused was charged with:
- Disobeying Court Order
The second accused was subsequently released on an undertaking with conditions.
