The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a police-involved shooting in the Ohsweken-Six Nations of the Grand River on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- On the night of October 31, 2023, at the request of the Six Nations Police Service officers who were dealing with a barricaded individual, Ontario Provincial Police officers attended a residence on Chiefswood Road in the Ohsweken-Six Nations of the Grand River.
- OPP officers attempted to resolve the situation, but the man refused to exit the residence.
- On the morning of November 1, 2023, the man discharged his firearm outdoors, while still in the residence.
- Sometime later, OPP officers breached the front door of the residence, and the man exited.
- There was an exchange of gunfire, and the man was struck multiple times.
- The 40-year-old man was transported to hospital for treatment.
Five investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
