County of Brant said that the Dundas Street East and Paris Road construction projects are continuing to show major progress.
It was announced on August 21 that, after several months of road work, the north side of Paris Road has reopened to two-way traffic.
In a news release, the County said that a majority of major underground services and foundational work taking place on Dundas Street East, Paris Road, and Oak Park road should be wrapped up by the end of 2026. Surface treatments and any remaining work that needs to be completed should be done by spring 2027.
As far as what’s done and what still needs to be completed, the County provided updates on the following roads:
Paris Road
Work on the gravity sanitary sewer, storm sewer, road works, watermain, base asphalt and line painting have all been completed.
Crews are currently working on prepping entrances for paving, hydro relocation, remaining curbs and sidewalks, and force main sanitary sewer (the main line is expected to be completed later this week and services will follow).
The remaining work includes the surface asphalt lift, topsoil and sod.
Governors Road East
Work has been completed on the eastbound lane, including asphalt and concrete removals, sanitary services, watermain installation, base asphalt and temporary line painting.
Crews have been working to complete the remaining curb and sidewalk work. Westbound lane asphalt removals, centre concrete base removals and surface work (asphalt, westbound curbs and sidewalks, topsoil and sod) have yet to be completed.
Dundas Street East – from Governors Road to the CN Bridge
The gravity sewer and storm sewer, eastbound lane asphalt, and temporary line painting have all been completed.
Storm work at the Consolidated Drive and Green Lane intersections are being worked on, along with hydro relocation and remaining lane curbs and sidewalks.
Work that still needs to be done includes: Westbound lane asphalt removals, center concrete base removals, and surface works (asphalt, topsoil, sod).
Dundas Street East – CN Bridge to Curtis Avenue
Storm sewer, asphalt and concrete removals, and watermain installation have all been completed, with final connection to occur this month.
Crews are currently working on watermain services and testing, and the sanitary sewer installation still needs to be completed.
CN Bridge Works
Work on the south side includes a completed watermain bypass, boulder removal, casing installation and watermain installation (waiting on disinfection and final connections).
The following work on the north side of the CN bridge is tentatively scheduled for mid-September: sanitary and storm installations, and rehabilitation of existing concrete box culvert.
While many residents expressed some doubts and concerns about the project update via social media, others welcomed the progress.
Karen Swartzentruber was among those who commented on the post, writing, “Good job! I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to see it (Paris Road) was open.”
Other residents shared their excitement about improved access, saying “Yay! So excited for it to be easier to get to and from Brantford out of Paris” or “Great work, County of Brant! Thank you.”
