Brantford voters set to choose new Council in October

Brantford’s municipal election field is now set after the nomination period officially closed on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Residents will be heading to the polls to elect a new mayor, their ward councillors and school board trustees on Monday, October 26. In total, there are 37 residents vying for one of 11 seats on City of Brantford Council.

The race to become the next Mayor for the City of Brantford has attracted four current members of council, as well as three others including:

  • Councillor Dan McCreary
  • Councillor Mandy Samwell
  • Councillor Richard Carpenter
  • Councillor Rose Sicoli
  • Ricky Willdy
  • Leslie Bory 
  • Richard Michael Misura

As for those running for the two seats in Ward 1, incumbent Michael Sullivan will be vying to retain his spot on council against:

  • Darryl Casey 
  • Bob Sproul
  • Michael Boucher 
  • Nick Singh

With longtime Ward 2 Councillor John Sless not seeking re-election, incumbent Gino Caputo will be racing alongside:

  • Erica James
  • Dave Malcolm
  • Mark Littell
  • Dave Wrobel

With neither Councillor Greg Martin nor McCreary looking to retain their current roles on council, the race for the two seats in Ward 3 has attracted the most candidates, with ten people looking to fill the vacancies, including:

  • Andrew Davis
  • Rod Philpot
  • Arron Jeavons
  • Trevor J. Cherewka
  • Mike Clancy
  • Gordon Riches
  • Mark St. Angelo
  • Dan Skater
  • Kailee Poisson
  • Frank Kohlberger

In Ward 4, incumbent Linda Hunt is running against:

  • Nicole Callander
  • Colleen Goupil
  • Nicole Durnford 
  • Al Mosco

The two positions for Ward 5 are being sought by:

  • Incumbent Brian Van Tilborg
  • Karleigh Csordas
  • Mandy Stelling
  • Dan Thompson 
  • Robert Stanley Harland.

Those running to be one of four trustees elected at large to the Grand Erie District School Board include: Carol Ann Sloat (incumbent), John Bradford (incumbent), Greg Anderson (incumbent), Susan Gibson (incumbent), John Steinberg, Dale Renout and Naser Hamed

Those running for the two trustees-at-large positions on the Brant Haldimand Norfolk District Catholic School Board are Wenda Allicock, Eryn Ritter, Stan Verschoore and Birkin James Culp.

Incumbent Dorothée Petit-Pas is the sole Brantford candidate seeking re-election to the Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir trustee position.
