Officers with the Brantford Police Service charged a 40-year-old Brantford man with second degree Murder after the Buchanan Crescent residential fire that claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman.

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service, along with Brantford Fire and Brant County Paramedics, responded to the residential fire on Buchanan Crescent.

A 49-year-old woman who resided within the home was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Three other adults, including the accused, were present in the home at the time of the fire and were transported to hospital for treatment. 

The accused reported for a video remand bail hearing on May 7, 2025.
