Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call for service at a Clarence Street residence at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023,

A man was reported to have been observed attempting to break into the home, when he was confronted by the resident. The accused was reported to have fled on foot, attempting to then gain entry of a backyard shed before running into the neighbour’s yard, damaging a fence. 

Officers attended and located the accused in the neighbour’s yard.

When officers advised the accused he was under arrest, he became combative, assaulting officers and resisting arrest.

As a result, a 40-year-old man, who is a non-resident of Brantford, was arrested and stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 

  • Break and enter dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence 
  • Mischief under $5,000  
  • Resist arrest 
  • Assault a peace officer
  • Attempt to disarm a peace officer
