Brantford issues public service announcement regarding phone call scam for water testing

City of BrantfordBrantford issues public service announcement regarding phone call scam for water testing

The City of Brantford is cautioning residents about questionable tactics involving phone calls to residents to test drinking water. The City reassures residents that the water supplied by the City meets or exceeds strict provincial quality standards and is safe to drink.

The City of Brantford has recently become aware of residents being contacted by people falsely posing as City of Brantford employees, requesting to test their water by booking an appointment at a certain day and time.

Please note that the City of Brantford does not contact residents by phone, or door-to-door to book home appointments regarding the quality of water or to test water at an individual residential property.

In special circumstances, as part of the city’s Lead Financial Incentive Program, City staff will contact residences who have known or suspected lead water service pipes to arrange for lead testing.

Please note that City of Brantford employees will always carry an official City of Brantford badge with photo identification and drive a City vehicle that has City of Brantford logos. If you receive a call and are concerned, please call the City’s Customer Service department at 519-759-4150 to be connected with staff in the City’s Water Department to confirm if the call you received was legitimate.

Residents who feel they have been treated unfairly or are victims of fraud are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Public Business Service Delivery.

Residents with concerns about their water quality can contact the City’s Customer Service department at 519-759-4150. The City of Brantford publishes annual drinking water quality reports and makes these frequent updates available online.
