Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) provided its daily COVID-19 update. All statistics are as of today, Friday, December 31 at 11:00 a.m.

Currently, there are 732 total active cases with 196 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours and five hospitalizations currently.

Since the pandemic began, BCHU has reported 5,581 total confirmed cases, 4,815 total resolved cases and 34 deaths.

In other COVID-19-related news, Grand Erie District School Board announced there were eight elementary school cases reported in the district in the last 24 hours, including 1 positive case at Lynndale Heights, 1 positive case at Oneida Central, 1 positive case at River Heights, 1 positive case at Teeterville and 4 positive cases at Rainham Central, leading to three COVID-19 outbreaks being declared at the school.

The Province of Ontario reported 16,713 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. There are currently 1,144 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 205 people in ICU.
