Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Buffalo Street location after receiving a call regarding a possible impaired driver at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

A concerned citizen called to report a man was observed passed out in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Officers attended and located the accused unconscious within the vehicle. After the accused was awakened by officers, signs of impairment were observed.

The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation (drug) and was required to submit to a drug recognition evaluation.

Search incident to arrest located approximately 0.4 grams of suspected blue fentanyl and 0.1 grams of suspected green fentanyl within the vehicle. 

A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed with the evaluating officer forming the opinion that the accused’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.

Additionally, information received indicated that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following: 

  • Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • 2x Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Breach of Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused was held for bail.
