Inspiring children through discovery, adventure, and play

Since its inception two years ago, EduColor Press has been focused on developing a variety of creative and engaging educational resources for children from ages four to ten.

Dr. Christina Han, who is the Director of Education for the Brantford-based company as well as professor at Laurier Brantford, explained its beginnings.

“Educolor Press was founded two years ago with a goal to create engaging content, and educational experiences and materials for children and families…to help them explore the world, especially global cultures, and histories. My role is focused on the educational content…. including some ideas for their books and YouTube channel,” described Han. “When I was raising my two children (my daughter is now in Grade 10 and my son is in Grade 8), I found it very difficult to find inclusive teaching materials for children, including books and even like materials online [and] when this group came together to form Educolor Press, they reached out to me for advice and educational guidance. I suggested that it would be a good idea to really help kids explore world culture…because I think we really need that. At school, they learn about Canadian history [and] in high school, they learn about American history [and] that’s pretty much the extent of it. So, if you visit our YouTube channel and our Online Academy, we have courses on places all around the world…and not limited to just North America. [However,] we also talk about subjects like science, and global cultures….presenting it in a really fun way.”

The organization offers various tools and resources, including books and videos, as well as, creating the Online Academy.

“So far, we have published over 60 books and there’s also an Online Academy where kids can take different courses. Some of courses are free, and we alternate the selection of these courses each month. There are also paid monthly and annual membership options, [where] kids can learn about different life skills for example,” the director explained. “There’s a module called Future Me [where] kids can learn about different career options through interactive videos, games, and quizzes. We also have a YouTube channel [EduColor World]….and some of the course videos that we create, we post them on YouTube. Currently, we have close to 70,000 subscribers, and the number keeps growing.”

However, feedback has been positive, especially when it comes to the global richness of the content.

“Parents and children….have really appreciated the global perspective that our courses and books offer. We just launched a new book series called Global Adventures, and so far we’ve published five books on various countries, but our hope is to publish a short learning book on every single country throughout the world. It includes various activities and discussion questions,” said Han.

For EduColor Press, the focus is to create quality educational resources for children. However, another goal is to build partnerships with various organizations, like Second Harvest or the SCPA, in order to design additional resources that further children’s learning opportunities. EduColor Press has also been actively trying to find collaborators when it comes to building more enriching content.

“We are now in the process of contacting different organizations and educational institutions across Ontario and Canada, hoping to work with them to create content together. Right now, our team will be focusing on creating courses on social advocacy issues like mental health, environmental protection, and food waste among other subjects,” she said. “We are actually in talks with the largest food waste reduction organization in Canada called Second Harvest. Their mission is to end food waste, and we reached out to them because they do a lot of programs, and we thought it would be wonderful to get somebody from there to perhaps record what they’re doing on a day-to-day basis and teach kids about how to reduce food waste…it would be wonderful to create an online course with interactive videos for children where they can learn how to reduce food waste, for example.”

Nevertheless, the organization has also been creating awareness for its mission through events including the Kids Adventure Expo that was held in late February 2026.

“We wanted to create a family event where kids can explore learning through fun experiences and interactive workshops, performances, creative activities, while bringing] local vendors and creatives like children’s authors. And it was a really successful event….so many families came, and we were really encouraged by the turnout,” Han noted. “One new thing that we introduced there was the Adventure Passport. Every kid who came got a little passport, and they could get stamps and stickers from different vendors and from the workshops that they did. At the end of the visit, based on how many stamps and stickers they collected, they would get little prizes, which they really loved.”

However, Han along with the team have continued to draw from Brantford’s creative well to grow its organization.

“I myself moved to Brantford from Toronto 13 years ago, when I got the job here at Laurier [and] it really changed my perspective.  It took me a while to actually learn about the city and to also make connections here, but there are so many creative people in this community. Brantford has a lot of people, like writers who are producing children’s literature….[and] we invited some of the authors to the expo, for example, because we wanted to bring everyone, whether performers or writers or vendors who cater to children and families, under one roof and really support each other,” she stated.

While there is a plethora of educational and learning platforms for children online, Han explained what separates the organization from the others.

“What we found is a lot of these platforms and services are very curriculum-oriented…like teaching them literacy, math, and science which is great…but, our courses are different. Instead…we try to complement the learning that the kids are getting from schools and through official learning curriculum. So, when we talk about life skills…we focus on social and emotional learning [and when they are] learning about the world or about people throughout the world or, their histories, [and] their cultures…we try make it in a fun and engaging but also educational for children to experience,” she explained. “One good example is our courses we have on different cities throughout the world. The latest one that we published is on Barcelona. I would say we have the only learning platform where kids can learn about what happens in Barcelona as well as several other nonwestern cities and countries. And that’s what really has separated us from other learning platforms…which are the global perspective children and families can explore.”

Launched several years ago, EduColor Press has released an array of educational resources, including books, videos, and interactive tools to help children from the ages of four to ten learn about many subjects, such as world cultures. Photo courtesy EduColor Press.
