Residents near Grand River advised to reduce water use

Local NewsResidents near Grand River advised to reduce water use

Water users in parts of Brant County, Haldimand County, Six Nations, and Norfolk County in the McKenzie Creek sub-watershed are being asked to reduce their water consumption by 20 per cent due to continued dry conditions.

The call for reduced water use comes from the Grand River Low Water Reponse Team. They say the lack of rain has caused water levels in stream flows to drop significantly.

The McKenzie Creek sub-watershed has been moved to a “Level 2” designation, meaning the water levels have dropped to half their normal volume.

Included in the McKenzie Creek watershed area are:

  • Southern Brant County near Scotland and Oakland
  • Northeast Norfolk County
  • Six Nations of the Grand River
  • Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
  • Haldimand County south of Caledonia

The Grand River Conservation Authority says it will continue to monitor water levels closely.
