Six Nations trust approves $47K for local initiatives

Local NewsSix Nations trust approves $47K for local initiatives

The Six Nations of the Grand River Economic Development Trust (EDT) announced that it approved just over $47,000 in funding for volunteer-led initiatives on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The funding, totaling $47,058, was generated by the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) and will go towards five local volunteer organizations and initiatives throughout the rest of the year.

“We’re proud to support these organizations in their important work to strengthen the Six Nations community,” said Rachel Martin, Chair of the SNGRDC Board of Directors. “Giving back has always been central to SNGRDC’s mission, and it’s rewarding to mark our tenth year in business by bringing our total EDT contributions to more than $25 million.”

The SNGRDC’s Economic Development Trust Committee approved the following applicants for funding on Wednesday, October 1, 2025:

  • Project Skate: will receive $3,098 to upgrade the lighting at the Six Nations Skate Park.
  • Tewateweyenhstha: will receive $5,800 for their ‘Revitalizing Mohawk Language’ program.
  • The Haudenosaunee Sports Development Group: will receive $10,650 to host their ‘Dedwaye:na – Let’s Work Together, Help Each Other’ gathering for the Six Nations cultural sports community.
  • The Six Nations Agricultural Society: will receive $12,510 for Kid’s Day at the 2025 Six Nations Fall Fair.
  • Kawenní:io/Gawęní:yo School: will receive $15,000 to purchase a heat press and embroidery machine to support apparel sales for fundraising.

The Economic Development Trust uses surplus profits from the SNGRDC’s business operations, such as investments in renewable energy infrastructure, to help fund community projects.

Applicants must demonstrate a financial need and showcase how their project aligns with the Six Nations Community Plan.

This will be the final round of the trust’s funding for 2025 and future applicants are encouraged to follow the EDT’s Facebook page to stay updated on future calls for applications in 2026.
