Brant OPPSix Nations man facing multiple charges after call from citizen

One person is facing a number of impaired related charges after Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were alerted to a vehicle parked on the road with an unresponsive driver early Saturday morning.

On March 11, 2023 at approximately 3:40a.m., officers with the Brant County OPP responded to a call of a vehicle parked with an unresponsive driver on McBay Road in the County of Brant.

As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to Brantford Police Service for testing.

Police have charged 52-year-old David Lee SMITH, from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol or drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario at a later date.
