Brantford police have charged a second man with first-degree murder in the death of a 68-year-old man who was assaulted earlier this month.

Officers responded on December 4 around 8:30 a.m. to a home on Market St. where they found a 68-year-old Brantford man suffering life-threatening injuries after being assaulted.

Paramedics then brought the man to hospital. Police confirmed on December 7 that the man died as a result of his injuries.

Also on December 4, police responded to a home on Morton St. around 9:30 a.m. for reports of another assault.

A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators arrested and charged Kevin Jellis, 35, of Brantford on December 5 with attempted murder. The charge was later upgraded to first-degree murder after the victim died from his injuries.

Officers charged Calvin Clarke, 28, of Brantford on December 10 with attempted murder in connection with this case.

Clarke also faces assault charges in relation to the incident at the home on Morton Ave.

Detectives continue to investigate both incidents and encourage anyone who may have information to contact police at 519 756 7050.
