Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after a concerned citizen called to report that an elderly man was driving erratically in the area of Lynden Road and Garden Avenue at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Police arrived on scene and observed the vehicle traveling eastbound on Sinclair Boulevard.
Officers conducted a traffic stop. In speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were observed.
Information was received to identify the accused as a prohibited driver.
A standardized field sobriety test was completed roadside. The accused performed poorly and was subsequently arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug and was transported to complete a drug recognition evaluation.
A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed, and it was determined that the subject’s ability to operate a conveyance was impaired by a drugs.
As a result of this investigation, a 57-year-old man from Brechin stands charged with the following:
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Operation while Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive while under suspension, contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act x 2
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
