Brantford man charged with Operation While Impaired
Officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Gordon Street at approximately 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 18, 2022.
Officers attended the location and observed a man slouched over the steering wheel of a running motor vehicle. The man appeared to be unconscious. After several attempts, officers were able to wake the man and observed signs of intoxication.
The accused was subsequently arrested for drug-related impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The accused was then transported in order to submit to a Drug Recognition Expert for further testing. Testing found the accused to be impaired by drug.
As a result, a 32-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Operation While Impaired – Drugs, Section
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
Police charge Brantford man with Assault
Officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to an assault related call for service which had occurred at two separate locations: a residence on South Street and a residence on Darling Street on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
It was reported that at approximately 4:00 p.m., while a man was working in his yard at a residence on South Street, he was confronted by another man (the accused) regarding a dispute over alleged stolen property. The accused is reported to have assaulted the 39-year-old male victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The accused then left the scene.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., the accused attended a location on Darling Street where he allegedly forced his way into the residence, pushing his way past an 18-year-old female victim, in search of the male victim from earlier in the day.
The accused is also reported to have uttered threats against the two victims.
As a result, a 52-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Assault x 2
- Breaking and Entering
- Uttering Threats
36-year-old man charged with Impaired Operation
Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Lynden Road and Wayne Gretzky Parkway at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
It was reported that a man had been refused service at a local restaurant due to intoxication and was then observed driving a vehicle. A vehicle description was provided which assisted officers in locating the accused.
Officers located the motor vehicle travelling westbound on Dunsdon Street. The vehicle was travelling at a slow rate of speed, weaving within the lane, impeding the flow of traffic and did not have the vehicle’s lights on. As a result, a traffic stop was conducted.
In speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were observed. The accused was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation.
The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.
As a result, a 36-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Impaired Operation – Alcohol
- 80 Plus
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
Police charge man with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
On Sunday, May 15, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., multiple calls were received from concerned citizens to alert police to a possible impaired driver, who was reported to have struck two cars parked on Iroquois Street with his motor vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Officers attended and located the accused nearby. Signs of impairment were observed by officers when speaking with the accused.
As a result, the accused was arrested for Operation While Impaired- Drugs.
Search incident to arrest located approximately 4.3 grams of suspected crack and approximately 0.8 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine. A scale and quantity of currency was also located in possession of the accused.
The controlled substances were packaged in such a way that grounds were formed for the charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.The accused was transported to complete a Drug Recognition Evaluation, where it was determined he was impaired.
Additionally, at the time of the occurrence, the accused was determined to be in violation of a valid probation order and two valid driver’s licence suspensions.
The controlled substances, currency, and drug paraphernalia were seized.
As a result of this incident, Michael Ross SHARKEY, 43, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:
- Operation while Impaired- Drugs- Contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking- Contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Breach of Probation- Contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive While Under Suspension x 2- Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
Brantford woman charged with Robbery With Weapon
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a robbery related call at a convenience store located on Colborne Street.
It was reported that a female (accused) attended the store with the 21-year-old female victim and allegedly forced her to withdraw funds from a bank machine. The accused is reported to have threatened to stab the victim and was believed to be in possession of a knife. Officers attended and observed the exchange between the two females and what appeared to be the handle of a knife visible from a bag the accused was in possession of.
Additionally, information was received to advise that the accused was in violation of an undertaking. Search incident to arrest found the accused to be in possession of a knife.
As a result, a 34-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Robbery with weapon
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with undertaking
The accused was held for bail.
Brantford man charged with three counts of Arson
officers of the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a location on Dalhousie Street in regard to an arson investigation at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022.
Officers attended and observed the Brantford Fire Department on scene actively extinguishing two vehicles which were fully engulfed in flames. The vehicles were located parked underneath the overhang of an apartment building. Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire without any extensive damage to the apartment building however, the fire caused immense damage to both vehicles.
Investigation revealed that the accused is alleged to have purposefully set fire to the vehicles. At approximately 1:15 a.m., officers located the accused nearby who was arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Bryan Michael HENRY, 33, of Brantford (no fixed address), stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Arson – Damage to Property x 2
- Arson – Disregard for Human Life
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Woodstock woman charged with Assault with a Weapon
On Friday, May 13, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the accused attended a residence located on Helen Avenue, and after a dispute, the accused sprayed the victim, a 23-year-old female, with dog spray.
The victim suffered minor physical injuries as a result of the spray. The accused and the victim were known to each other.
As a result, the accused, a 21-year-old female from Woodstock, stands charged with Assault with a weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code.
19-year-old charged with Assault
officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Park Road North and Brier Park Road regarding an assault at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
It was reported that a 19-year-old male physically assaulted an unsuspecting victim, a 48-year-old male. The accused and the victim were not known to each other.
The victim sustained minor physical injuries and was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services for treatment.
Officers attended, located, and subsequently arrested the accused.
As a result of the incident, a 19-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with one count of assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.
