Brantford man charged with Theft

On Monday, September 19, 2022, at approximately 1:00 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were conducting foot patrol in the area of Icomm Drive when they observed a suspicious motor vehicle with a male who was within the trunk area. 

Upon investigation, the man was not authorized to be in the vehicle and was found to be in possession of items belonging to the registered owner of the vehicle.

As a result, the accused was arrested for the offence of theft under $5000. 

Additional information was received indicating that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result of this investigation, a 25-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

• Theft under $5000 

• Failure to comply with probation order 

Ohsweken woman facing Aggravated Assault charge

On Sunday, September 18, 2022, at approximately 3:30 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an assault related call at a Grey Street residence.

A physical altercation was reported to have occurred earlier that evening between the victim, a 21-year-old female and the accused, a 29-year-old female. 

A brief time later, the victim attended the Grey Street residence, where another physical altercation occurred between the women, resulting in the victim receiving multiple stab wounds to her legs.

The victim fled the residence to seek medical treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Officers attended, located, and arrested the accused.

Additionally, information was received to indicate that the accused was in violation of a valid release order. 

As a result, Shanna Julieanna VANEVERY, 29 from Ohsweken stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

• Aggravated Assault 

• Failure to comply with Judicial Release Order – Release Order 

• Weapons Dangerous 

The accused was held for bail and remanded to custody.

Brantford Police charge Delhi man with Operation while Impaired

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at approximately 4:40 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a possible impaired driver at a Stanley Street location.

The accused was located unconscious in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, within the parking lot of a Stanley Street restaurant. The engine was running. Officers observed open alcohol containers in clear view and within reach of the driver.

Information received determined that the accused was in violation of the terms of his G2 licence.

As a result, a 42-year-old man from Delhi currently stands charged with the following: 

• Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration Contrary to the Criminal Code

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Ohsweken man facing multiple charges

Officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a call regarding a vehicle in the area of Wellington Street and King Street which was being operated in a dangerous manner at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022,

Officers attended, located the subject vehicle at the area of McMurray Street and Pearl Street, and initiated a traffic stop.

The accused then attempted to flee from police, striking the cruiser, before driving northbound on McMurray Street. 

The accused was observed operating his vehicle in a reckless manner, striking a street sign and a motor vehicle before stopping his vehicle in the area of Henrietta Street in an attempt to flee on foot.

Officers located and arrested the accused at a Brant Avenue location.

Speaking with the accused, signs of impairment were observed and, as a result, a drug recognition evaluation demand was completed. It was determined that the accused was impaired by drug.

Additionally, it was determined that the accused was in violation of driving suspensions at the time of the incident and investigation revealed that the vehicle was being operated with non-matching number plates in the front and rear – both of which were not authorized for use with the vehicle.

As a result of this investigation, a 25-year-old man from Ohsweken, stands charged with the following offences: 

• Dangerous Operation

• Failure to stop after accident x2

• Flight from police officer

• Operation of a conveyance while prohibited x3

• Operation while impaired – drug

• Use plate not authorized for Motor Vehicle x2

• Fail to report damage to property on highway

The accused was held for bail. 

Brantford man facing one count of Assault

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at approximately 12:00 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an assault related call at a Pearl Street location.

Information was received to indicate that a 59-year-old male victim was occupying the driver’s seat of his vehicle, within a Pearl Street parking lot when the accused male, who was on foot, approached, the victim and engaged in a verbal dispute.

The verbal confrontation turned physical when the accused allegedly reached into the vehicle, striking the victim. The accused then hit the victim’s vehicle before leaving on foot.

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. After a short foot chase, the accused was arrested.

The accused and the victim were not known to each other. 

As a result of this police investigation, a 21-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with one count of assault contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Police charge Brantford man with Theft under $5,000

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at approximately 12:30 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a suspicious person related call in the area of Oak Street.

Officers attended and found the accused man in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle that was not registered to him. 

The accused attempted to flee on foot and resist arrest. 

Search subsequent to arrest located items allegedly taken from the victim’s motor vehicle. The items were returned to their rightful owner.

As a result, a 35-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 

• Theft Under $5,000 from a motor vehicle

• Resist Arrest

• Trespass/Prowl near dwelling house

The accused in this matter was held for bail. 

Brantford Police charge two men with Assault

On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at approximately 9:30 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an Icomm Drive location after receiving a report of an assault. 

Information was received to report that a verbal altercation involving several people occurred. The verbal altercation escalated becoming physical, resulting in a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old female receiving non-life-threatening injuries.

Police subsequently located the two accused men at a nearby location who were taken into custody. 

As a result, a 24-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both of Brantford, each stand charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.

19-year-old charged with Impaired Driving

On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at approximately 7:30 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Market Street South location after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver.

Officers attended the area, located the suspect vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Erie Avenue.

When speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment and a roadside screening device was issued, which registered a fail.

The accused was then arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit. 

As a result, a 19-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, the licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Brantford woman charged after multi-vehicle collision

On Monday, September 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Rawdon Street near Marlborough Street.

A concerned citizen called to report that a female driver had allegedly struck two parked vehicles and failed to stop at a stop sign.

Officers attended the area, located the subject vehicle, and accused female who was placed into custody for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

Information received indicated that the accused was in violation of the terms of her G2 licence.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following offences: 

• Operation while impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code

• Operation while impaired – 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code

• Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• Fail to Remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, contrary to the Canadian Automobile Insurance Act

Additionally, a driver’s licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded.

Brantford man facing two counts of Assault With a Weapon

On Sunday September 11, 2022, at approximately 1:00 A.M., officers with the Branford Police Service were dispatched to attend an assault related call at a location near Darling Street and George Street.

Information was received to report that two female victims, ages 31 and 46, were allegedly sprayed with a noxious substance by a man who also hit one woman with a small bat before he fled on foot. The victims and accused were known to each other.

Officers attended the scene. Further investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of a valid release order. 

The victims sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.

As a result, the accused, John WHALEN, 34, of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

• Assault with a Weapon x2

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x2

• Failure to Comply with Judicial Release Order

An arrest warrant has been issued.

Brantford Police charge man with Assault and Assault With a Weapon

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, at approximately 4:30 P.M., officers were dispatched to a location on Fifth Avenue regarding an assault.

Information was received to report that after an alleged road rage incident, a man grabbed the arm of the victim – a 27-year-old female and brandished a hammer in a threatening manner before fleeing the scene.

Officers attended and through investigation located and arrested the accused man. 

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

• Assault with a Weapon

• Assault

Brantford Police charge man with Mischief and Assault With a Weapon

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at approximately 5:40 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a residence located on Elgin Street regarding an assault.

Information was received by police to report that a verbal altercation between two men escalated to physical violence.

The accused was reported to have assaulted the 27-year-old male victim with a bat as well as damaging a television within the residence.

The victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result, a 45-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 

• Assault with a weapon 

• Mischief Under $5,000 

Brantford man charged with Operation while Impaired

On Sunday, September 4, 2022, at approximately 7:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a possible impaired driver at a Henry Street gas station.

Alert employees observed a customer who appeared to be impaired and contacted the police.

Officers attended, and in speaking with the man, observed signs of impairment.

A Drug Recognition Evaluation was conducted. 

Additional information received advised the accused was a G1 licence driver and failing to abide by the terms.

A search subsequent to arrest, located the following: 

• A quantity of unauthorized prescription drugs (suspected Percocet)

• Drug paraphernalia 

• Approximately 4 grams of suspected fentanyl  

As a result, a 43-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:

• Operation while Impaired, contrary to Criminal Code

• Possession of Schedule I – Other Drugs x2, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

• Glass G1 Licence holder -unaccompanied by qualified driver, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

• Obstruction, contrary to the Criminal Code 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Ohsweken man facing multiple charges stemming from motor vehicle collision

On Saturday, September 3, 2022, at approximately 7:50 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision that had occurred at a location on Glenwood Road.

Investigation revealed that the accused was operating a stolen motor vehicle, travelling eastbound on Glenwood Drive, and collided with another motor vehicle. The accused was observed vacating the driver’s seat and fleeing the scene on foot.

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. A short foot chase occurred, with the accused attempting to evade police by jumping into the river. 

The accused was placed under arrest.

Additional information received revealed that the accused was in violation of a number of valid driving suspensions and prohibitions. 

As a result, a 40-year-old man from Ohsweken, stands charged with the following: 

• Operate a conveyance while prohibited x3, contrary to the Criminal Code

• Resist arrest, contrary to the Criminal Code 

• Failure to stop after accident, contrary to the Criminal Code 

• Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code 

• Fail to remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• Driving while suspension x6, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• Careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

The accused was held for bail. 

30-year-old Brantford man charged with Operation While Impaired

On Saturday September 3, 2022, at approximately 2:30 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were alerted to a suspected impaired driver by a concerned citizen. 

The suspect vehicle was observed travelling in an erratic manner on Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Officers attended, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop.

Speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment.

Subsequently, the accused was arrested for Impaired Operation and transported to be assessed by a Drug Recognition Expert. 

Information received indicated the accused was a prohibited driver.

As a result, a 30-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 

• Operation while Impaired 

• Operation while Prohibited 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
