The Brant Tornadoes captured the bronze medal at the 6 v 6 Burgarski Cup Trillium tournament in London, Ontario on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

The Tornadoes started out quickly, defeating the London VC Fire in three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 15-12, during their opening match. The Tornadoes then took on the second-seeded St. Thomas Express but fell in straight sets, 25-18 and 25-19, finishing round robin play with a 1-1 record.

Their record was enough to secure a quarterfinal matchup against the fourth-seeded London Forest City Maples. After dropping the first set 25-14, they rebounded to win the next two sets 25-14 and 17-15 to advance to the semi-final against the top-ranked Guelph Jr. Gryphons. The Tornadoes battled hard but fell short, losing in straight sets, 25-22 and 25-22.

With the loss in the semis, the Tornadoes went on to battle the Stratford Stingers for the bronze medal. The team had a slow start in the medal match, dropping the first set 25-18 but the group rebounded to win the next two sets, 25-18 and 18-16 to capture the bronze medal.

We are looking forward to continuing to work hard in practice and having the girls take their positive attitudes to Provincials at the end of April,” said coach Rick Beedham.
