Nearly 1,000 people stopped by Dairee Delite’s 11th annual Superhero Day event on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Held in support of Kids Can Fly, a local not-for-profit that supports early learning and parenting, the event helps to raise essential funds for the organization’s various programs and services.
“We provide a ton of free services to the community, which we love doing, but we do need all the community support we can get in order to fund those, and so we really appreciate events like this one,” said Becca McLellan, Executive Director of Kids Can Fly.

McLellan added that another big part of the event, which featured a host of costumed superheroes and storybook characters, is familiarizing children and their families with everyday heroes like first responders.
“The premise of the event is that we want to celebrate and warm kids up to first responders and so we have the police and paramedics here; usually the firefighters are here with a truck as well, but unfortunately they weren’t able to make it today,” she said. “But the kids are having a really great time exploring all the different vehicles, and to make the event even more exciting, we have activities, games, face painting and different information handouts too.”

Throughout the event, the youngsters lined up to test their fire safety knowledge with the Brantford Fire Department’s fire safety educators, check out the Brantford Police Service’s Emergency Response Team’s Gurkha vehicle, or explore one of the Brantford-Brant Paramedic Services’ ambulances.
Guests were also seen saying hello to characters like Princess Elsa, Captain America, Belle, Cinderella and Thor, testing their dance and karate skills at the Triple Arts Academy booth, visiting the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library reading tent, grabbing a bite to eat from the BBQ and enjoying their favourite ice cream treats with their families.

On top of all the fun children-friendly activities, many of the parents were also partaking in a raffle to win a free 2025 Harley Davidson Street Bob.
Overall, McLellan said she was thrilled to see so many families taking part in the event and enjoying their day.
“The turnout today is fantastic,” she said. “You never know what kind of weather you’re gonna get on Labour Day, but it is really nice today and people are happy to have their ice cream and walk around, and so we’re really happy with the number of people who came out.”
