County of BrantCounty looking for feedback on Mount Pleasant Park

County of Brant is seeking input from community members to help shape the future of Mount Pleasant Park.

Located at 555 Burtch Road, the park’s amenities currently include a playground structure, baseball diamond, picnic area with pavilion, tennis and pickleball courts, skateboard park, soccer field and accessible walking path.

According to the EngageBrant project page, the County is planning improvements to the park, starting with a new, Council approved multi-sport court, scheduled for construction in 2027.

With the new multi-sport court currently proposed to be built on the site of the existing skate park, the County survey asks where it should be relocated, and whether it should be replaced with a small pump track for non-motorized bikes and scooters instead.

The future Mount Pleasant Park multi-sport court is proposed to be built on the site of the existing skateboard park.

Washroom facilities are also planned for 2028, and the County is looking into different options to determine what best meets the needs of park users. The survey provides the following three options, noting each has different installation costs and ongoing maintenance needs:

Option 1: seasonal portable washroom

  • Available during the park’s busier months
  • Requires regular cleaning and waste removal
  • No flushing toilet or running water

Option 2: flush-toilet washroom with holding tank

  • Provides a flushing toilet
  • Wastewater is stored in a holding tank that requires regular emptying

Option 3: permanent washroom building with septic system

  • Provides flushing toilets and running water
  • Wastewater is managed through an on-site septic system
  • Requires ongoing building maintenance and septic servicing
With two layout options for Mount Pleasant Park to choose from, Option A proposes that the restored Lake Erie and Northern train station be placed closer to Burtch Road.

Additionally, Council gave the Brant Railway Heritage Society permission to relocate the restored Lake Erie and Northern train station to Mount Pleasant Park in 2019. Staff are now exploring two potential locations for the station, along with supporting features such as expanded parking and loading areas. The timing of the relocation has yet to be confirmed, but the survey asks about location preference.

“Some improvements have already received Council approval, while decisions about their locations and other park features are still being considered,” the EngageBrant project page states. “Your feedback will help guide those decisions.”

Staff are asking that the community review the two proposed layouts for the park, and complete the survey no later than Monday, November 16, 2026. Option A features the railway heritage museum located closer to Burtch Road, while Option B shows the museum sitting closer to the trail behind the tennis court.

“Both concepts also consider the new multi-sport court and potential changes to the existing skate park,” the website said. “Depending on the final layout, the soccer field may also be affected.”

While residents were invited to a public open house on October 21, further opportunities for additional feedback will likely pop up as plans develop.
