Local NewsTeam Synergy wins gold at McGregor Cup championship

BYVC 16u Synergy won a gold medal at the McGregor Cup Championship level on the weekend at the Stratford Agriplex.

In doing so, they earned promotion to the Select Level of OVA competition.

The team had a tough morning when they lost both matches in three sets to London FC Willow (21-25, 25-19, 9-15) and Grimsby Vipers Invasion (25-13, 23-25, 11-15).

This placed them into a do-or-die match with Waterloo Tigers Instinct. Winner got into the playoffs, while the loser played in the seventh and ninth place and gets relegated to Trillium level.

Synergy won that contest 25-15, 25-20, which set up a quarter final with the tournament’s number one seed, Mississauga Pakmen Black.  They dropped their first game 18-25 before storming back to win the next two 25-17, 15-10.

In the semifinal, they met Grimsby Vipers again.  This time around, they were victorious, winning 25-12, 25-22.

In the final, they also met FC Willow again.  Synergy were very business like in securing a straight-sets win with scores of 25-16, 25-21 and the gold medal.
