Brantford police have charged 18 people after seizing nearly $100 million in illegal cannabis last week.

The force, along with Ontario Provincial Police and Canada Border Services Agency, started the investigation in July.

Officers then executed a search warrant on Aug. 9 at an industrial building located on Mohawk St. near Crandell Ave. in Brantford.

Investigators seized 83,435 cannabis plants, costing approximately $83,435,000. Police also recovered 5147.8 pounds of dried cannabis with an estimated street value of $12,869,500, if sold by the pound.

Eighteen people were arrested at the industrial building and charged with unlawfully producing and/or cultivating cannabis without authorization.

Anyone who would like to report information related to criminal activity within the community is asked to contact the Brantford Police Service at 519-756-7050.
