Brantford Police Service15-year-old charged with Possession of Dangerous Weapon

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Byrne Street after receiving a report of a person with a machete at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022,

The caller advised that the person was walking down the street, waving the machete and yelling.

Officers attended and located the accused at West Street and Morton Avenue.

The accused was subsequently arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

A search of the accused incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of a baton. A brief search of the area resulted in police recovering a machete, which was later confirmed to be matching the description of the weapon reported to police by the complainant. 

Officers observed signs of intoxication when dealing with the accused. 

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old youth stands charged with the following: 

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Being Intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to the Liquor Licence & Control Act
