Staff Reports

Public Works Department monthly report for June

The report, prepared by Jim Borton, Director of Public Works, provided the following update in regards to the activities of the Public Works Department.

  1. Princeton Ponds

Both of the two new ponds in the Village of Princeton are now complete; the Romano Pond, located on the west side of the village, and the Van Wees Pond on the east.

Ducks Unlimited have been in to pump the water down to install geese fencing, and have been planting in the areas to define the ponds as well.

  1. Princeton Phase 4 (South section)

Construction is moving along and the work on Main Street is on schedule. Once the work is completed up to Railway Street, workers will move on to the side streets before completing the south end.

“The main drain is completed on Main Street, and they are starting to do the main drain on Victoria Street as of today [July 2],” added Borton.

  1. Bridge 24 Environmental Assessment

The archaeological dig has been completed and nothing was found that was out of the ordinary. A report is being finalized and circulated, and once it’s approved by all parties involved, a tender for the work will go out.

  1. Bridge 38 Deck Repair on Township Road 5

The project is behind due to various weather delays, but the new deck has been poured and is curing.

“They’re hoping to get in and put the weather proofing membrane on top with the final asphalt, so that road will be open hopefully within the next couple of weeks, weather permitting,” Borton told Council.

Community Services monthly report for June

The report, prepared by Trevor Baer, Manager of Community Services, provided the following update in regards to the activities of the Community Services Department.

  1. EV Charging Stations

Baer told Council that staff have reached out to Learners LLP to conduct a review of the draft agreement with Jule Power (operated by eCamion Inc.) for the installation of EV fast-charging stations throughout the Township. Once completed, the document will be shared with JulePower for their feedback.

When both parties agree to the terms, a report will come to Council to recommend formal approval to finalize the agreement.

  1. EarlyON Programming

Back in May, Council discussed entering into a potential partnership with the Drumbo Agricultural Society to support EarlyON programming out of the Drumbo Hall, and in June, there were discussions surrounding the terms of agreement.

During the July Council meeting, Baer told councilors that staff met with the Drumbo Agricultural Society Committee to discuss said terms, and that the committee would be presenting the agreement their board that same night.

“I met with the subcommittee about the feedback from Council, and they’re going to give that update to the board tonight, and then we’ll go see where we go from there,” said Baer.

  1. Princeton Playground

The playground is technically open and already being enjoyed by families.

Baer said that there are some finishing touches that are scheduled to be done in July including the installation of benches, a saucer swing, picnic table and final landscaping, but once completed a grand opening ceremony will be held for staff and Council to attend.

  1. Cemeteries

Township staff met with a contractor in June to review various cemetery maintenance priorities, more specifically, in regards to monument foundation repairs.

According to Baer’s report, while specific work dates have yet to be confirmed, the contractor will be coordinating the foundation repairs to align with other concrete pouring activities within the Township cemeteries.
