Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) Foundation is preparing to host the inaugural Swing for Healthcare Charity Classic Tournament at the Brantford Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Haidee Scheers, Special Events Development Coordinator for the BCHS Foundation, said that she and the team are hoping the event will lead to a significant enhancement of the local healthcare system.
“It isn’t just a golf tournament, it will be a powerful day of impact, connection, and fun, with a mission to raise $150,000 for urgently needed diagnostic imaging equipment at both the Brantford General Hospital and the Willett Urgent Care Centre in Paris,” she said.
Scheers added that between the raffle for a Sonance outdoor patio sound system, the silent auction with over 40 items, the 50/50 draw and sponsorship opportunities, there are plenty of ways for those participating in the tournament to help support the cause.
“Each donation and each contribution will impact the diagnostic imaging equipment immensely, and the pieces of equipment that we are aiming to raise funds for include a mammography suite, gamma camera, MRI and ultrasound machines, all of which are life saving tools that aren’t covered by the Ministry of Health,” she said. “The BCHS Foundation actively works with our community and our businesses to raise those funds, and we’re hopeful that this year’s tournament, with the support of everyone coming out, will be an extraordinary day.”
Following registration and opening remarks, golfers are set tol kick off the 18-hole round with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m.
Scheers said that as players make their way through their games, not only will they come across on-course challenges that test their skills, but special treats as well.
“We’ll be having gourmet food and drink pairings from local gems in the community, such as Devlin’s Country Bistro, Paris Beer Co., Howell Road Cider Co., and more,” she said. “So, as golfers are making their way through the tournament, those vendors will be stationed at different holes throughout, and the players will have the opportunity to try a few different samples.”
As the tournament wraps up, attendees will head into the club house for a networking and cocktail hour until the event program commences at 5:00 p.m., with dinner in the Grand River Room to follow at 5:30 p.m.
“We will have a memorable dinner reception offering guests the opportunity to connect, network and celebrate our impact together, and that will also include a silent auction opportunity for a variety of experiences and gift baskets that have been generously donated from businesses and individuals in the community,” said Scheers.
Overall, the special events coordinator said that they’re looking forward to a great event.
“I know it’s an exciting time in the community and within the healthcare system, so we’re hoping to harness that excitement and to have everyone out onto the greens for this year’s Swing for Healthcare Charity Classic Tournament,” said Scheers. “I think whether you’re an avid golfer or you’re just looking to support local healthcare, it’s going to be a full circle kind of day, and that’s the message we’re really pushing out into the community. We’re hoping this will be a unique day, but also an impactful one at that.”
