On Thursday, December 23, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a suspicious vehicle without licence plates travelling westbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway. A male driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle matched the description of one utilized in several gas thefts in the City of Brantford.
Officers received information to identify the accused, who was determined to be a suspended driver, wanted for arrest by a two neighbouring police services.
Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The accused made no attempt to stop and fled from police at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was discontinued.
As a result, a warrant was sought for the arrest of Steven William LUNGARO, 33, of Stoney Creek, who stands charged with the following:
• Flight from Peace Officer – contrary to the Criminal Code
• Dangerous Operation – contrary to the Criminal Code
• Driving while under Suspension – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Additionally, investigation confirmed LUNGARO as the wanted individual in five gas thefts which occurred in Brantford during October and November 2021.
As a result of the investigation, the accused also stands charged with the following:
• Theft Under $5000 x 5 – contrary to the Criminal Code
On Saturday, January 1, 2021, at approximately 4:15 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed the suspect motor vehicle travelling on Shellard Lane towards Colborne Street.
A traffic stop was conducted. A female driver and a male passenger were the occupants of the vehicle.
Information received indicated that the male passenger was the wanted party from the above-mentioned incidents.
The accused male was arrested and held for bail.
