Rob Ashton, a federal NDP leadership candidate, visited Brantford on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The day started off with a tour of Hartmann, a Danish owned manufacturing plant in Brantford, followed by a round table discussion with executive board members of the Brantford and District Labour Council and the local NDP Riding Associations. The visit ended with a social event held at McGonagalls, a local pub in Brantford.
“I enjoyed my visit to Brantford that included a tour of Hartmann, a local manufacturing plant and meeting the people of Brantford throughout the day. They told me that they are tired of working hard but can never seem to get ahead. The people of Brantford want a leader that listens to them and stands up for them,” said Ashton. “As leader of the NDP, that is exactly what I will do. I look forward to returning to Brantford once I am elected NDP leader at the convention in March and carry on with these discussions. The people of Brantford deserve nothing less.”

Brad Ward, President of the Brantford-Brant-Six Nations Riding Association, expressed his gratitude for the visit.
“I appreciated Rob Ashton taking the time to visit Brantford, receive a tour of our city and meet some of our residents. It was a good way to get to know him and ask questions about his candidacy for the federal NDP leadership race in a relaxed and informal fashion. I have received nothing but a positive response from everyone who met Rob,” said Ward.
Ashton is one of the leading candidates for the Federal NDP leadership race. The leader of the party will be selected at the NDP convention in Winnipeg on March 29, 2026.
