Police respond to single motor vehicle collision

Officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Dunsdon Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Initial information indicated a motor vehicle had gone out of control and hit a streetlight. Officers arrived on scene and, when speaking with the driver of the vehicle, observed signs of impairment.

The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 59-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

  • Operation While Impaired-Alcohol 
  • Operation While Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Brantford man facing Break and Enter charges

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service attended a Brock Street residence after receiving a report of a break and enter. 

Officers arrived on scene and observed signs of forced entry. Damage to wires and cables within the residence was evident and appeared to be the cause of a gas leak which posed a hazard for local residents.

The Brantford Fire Department was contacted and attended regarding the gas leak.

The accused was located hiding within the building and arrested by police.

As a result, a 51-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

  • Break, Enter Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Mischief Endangering Life

21-year-old facing multiple charges after traffic stop

Officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle, which had been reported as stolen from a neighbouring jurisdiction at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024.

The vehicle was observed at the intersection of North Park Street and Memorial Drive.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, at which time the accused failed to comply with orders. The accused attempted to pull forward almost striking a police cruiser, then proceeded to reverse, hitting a second police cruiser. 

The accused was removed from the motor vehicle and arrested. Signs of impairment were observed by officers. 

The accused was required to perform a drug recognition exam, where it was determined he was under the influence of drugs. 

Information received indicated the accused was in violation of two valid probation orders.

As a result, a 21-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act violations: 

  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent 
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order 
  • Careless driving 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended.

Brantford Police charge 26-year-old with Stunt Driving

Officers with the Brantford Police Service Traffic Unit, who were performing proactive speed enforcement on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m., charged a 26-year-old male, non-resident of Brantford with Stunt Driving.

The individual, who was recorded travelling 114 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone at King George Road near Powerline Road, was charged with fail to surrender licence, speeding and stunt driving, with the vehicle being impounded and licence suspended.
