A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with a number of offences after the BPS Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT) found him in possession of a loaded restricted firearm and a large quantity of controlled substances.
Members of the Brantford Police Service Core Engagement and Response Team who were on patrol in the downtown core, observed a dispute between two people outside a Queen Street location at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
When officers were speaking with the individuals, a suspected firearm was observed. The firearm in possession of the man was determined to be a loaded .22 caliber handgun. The man was then placed under arrest.
Search incident to arrest located a large quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine as well as a large quantity of currency. Investigation determined that the accused was not the holder of a valid possession and acquisition license.
As a result, a 34-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:
• CARELESS STORAGE OF A FIREARM
• POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE
• CARRY CONCEALED WEAPON
• UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
• UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OF A FIREARM – DEVICE
• KNOWLEDGE OF UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
• POSSESSION OF A PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED FIREARM WITH AMMUNITION
• FAILURE TO REPORT FINDING OF FIREARM
• POSSESS FIREARM WITH ALTERED SERIAL NUMBER
• POSSESSION FOR THE PURPOSE – FENTANYL
• POSSESSION FOR THE PURPOSE – COCAINE
The accused was held for bail.
The CERT Team is comprised of a combination of sworn officers and special constables who remain focused on proactive enforcement while also addressing offences and unwanted behaviour within the Downtown Core. The efforts of the BPS CERT team enhance the ability of our front-line patrol officers to attend to the safety of citizens community wide.
