The City of Brantford announced the launch of a new online Artist Database, aimed at connecting local artists and creatives with future arts and culture projects and opportunities, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
The goal of the database is to expand staff awareness of local artists and creatives who are interested and available to participate in a variety of art initiatives. Local artists and creatives are encouraged to complete the online form at https://form.brantford.ca/Things-to-Do/Arts-and-Culture/Artist-Database-City-of-Brantford to join the database.
“The Artist Database will be a great way for the City to connect with local talent and better understand the artists in our community,” said Adrienne Briggs, Arts and Culture Coordinator, City of Brantford. “It costs nothing to join, and once they’re in the database, staff will be able to contact artists directly about specific projects, programs, and partnership opportunities.
Examples of past City-led arts and culture projects include calls for artists for Little Free Libraries™, Culture Days on the Trails, the Walter Gretzky Portrait and many more.
The Artist Database has already had its first artist join: Katie Coward, a Brantford-based illustrator.
“There’s a lot of talented creative people in Brantford but I don’t think that gets noticed enough,” explained Coward. “This database is helping to put creatives in front of people that want something with a bit more of creative spark to it. I hope with more opportunities like this we can build a better artists’ community in the city.”
