Brantford Police Service is reminding motorists about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving after six individuals were arrested and charged with impaired-related offences over the long weekend. Officers conducted focused enforcement efforts to help keep the community safe, and these arrests highlight the ongoing risks posed by drivers who choose to operate a vehicle while impaired.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., a report was received to advise that a vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Colborne Street and failed to remain. Officers intercepted the suspect vehicle in the area of Market Street and Grey Street and a traffic stop was conducted. Officers observed open alcohol containers within the vehicle and signs of impairment with the driver. The driver was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided by the accused were over four times the legal limit. (350 mg/100ml; 340mg/100ml). 

Due to the high blood alcohol concentration, the accused was transported to hospital for medical attention.

As a result, a 42-year-old male from Niagara Falls stands charged with the following:
•    Fail to remain at the scene of a collision
•    Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
•    Impaired Operation of a Conveyance 

The accused was served a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., a 911 call was received to report that a concerned citizen had observed a vehicle nearly causing an accident in the area of Brant Avenue and Church Street. Officers in the area located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. The driver failed the roadside testing and was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit (90mg/100ml, and 100mg/100ml). 

Additionally, the driver did not have a valid driver’s licence.

As a result, the accused, a 19-year-old man from Brantford was arrested and stands charged with the following:
•    Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
•    Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
•    Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Level Above Zero
•    Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

Additionally, the vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days.

Officers with the Brantford Police Service attended a parking lot at Icomm Drive and Clarence Street after receiving a call from a concerned citizen to report a possible impaired driver at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The vehicle, which was reported to have been driving erratically and swerving into oncoming traffic, was located by officers. Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. The accused failed roadside testing and was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were double to legal limit (170mg/100ml, 160mg/100ml).

As a result, a 26-year-old female from Hamilton stands charged with the following:
•    Operation While Impaired
•    Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration

Additionally, the accused was served a licence suspension, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service located a possible impaired driver in the area of Powerline Road and Paris Road after receiving a call to report the vehicle was observed swerving into oncoming traffic with no light on. A traffic stop was conducted at Brant Avenue and St. Paul Avenue. 

Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and roadside testing was conducted. As the accused failed the roadside testing, he was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples were double the legal limit (170mg/100ml, and 160mg/100ml).

As a result, a 50-year-old man from Brantford was arrested and stands charged with the following:
•    Operation While Impaired
•    Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration

Additionally, the accused was served a licence suspension, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were conducting patrol in the area of Birkett Lane when a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication. The accused was required to submit to sobriety testing and performed poorly. He was then required to be transported to submit to a drug recognition evaluation where it was determined that the accused was operating a vehicle while impaired by cannabis.

As a result, a 58-year-old man from Brantford was arrested and stands charged with the following:
•    Operation While Impaired

Additionally, the accused was served a licence suspension, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise that a possible impaired driver was observed to have hit two parked cars on Terrace Hill Street near Sydenham Street.

The driver was located within his vehicle at the scene and was arrested. The accused was then transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples were over the legal limit of 80mg/100ml) 

As a result, the accused, a 20-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with the following:
•    Operation While Impaired
•    Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
•    Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero
•    Careless Driving 

Additionally, the accused was served a licence suspension, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
