The Brantford Memorial Concert Band kicks off their Sunday Serenade Series at the Best Western Hotel on Sunday, October 23.
The Brantford Memorial Concert Band brings people of all ages, walks of life and playing abilities together to prepare concerts for the community. In 1961, the band began its “Sunday Serenades” and continues to do so today.
Music Director, Paul Nicholson, challenges the musicians to play a wide variety of music that is “sure to delight the audience.”
The Brantford Memorial Concert Band is a part of the Brantford School of Instrumental Music (BSIM), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality musical training to its members of all ages. Originally organized in 1931 as the Brantford Boys’ Band, the BSIM has assisted hundreds of men and women to discover their musical side.
Today, the BSIM offers progressive musical instruction in a multi-aged group setting. As well, the BSIM is able to loan various instruments to registered students, which further enables a budding musician.
As students’ musical abilities improve, they have an opportunity to play in the Bell City Band. From there, they could play in the Brantford Memorial Concert Band or the Brantford Community Symphony Orchestra.
Admission into the performance is by donation, and it begins at 3 p.m. The four “Sunday Serenades” are performed in February, April, October and December.
