Officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise of a possible impaired driver located in a Charing Cross Street parking lot at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Officers attended, located the subject vehicle and the accused, who appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel. Officers observed cannabis readily available and accessible to the driver. Signs of impairment were observed.
The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation and given the demand for a drug recognition evaluation.
A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed. The evaluating officer formed the opinion that the subject’s ability to operate a conveyance was impaired by drugs.
Search incident to arrest located a quantity of Oxycodone pills (40mg and 80mg) and a small quantity of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine.
As a result, a 20-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following:
• Operation While Impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Possession of Schedule I Substance x 3, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Have Care or Control of Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act
Additionally, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended, and the subject vehicle impounded.
