Brantford Collegiate to host international students

Local NewsBrantford Collegiate to host international students

MLI Homestay is seeking six welcoming host families in Brantford to open their homes for 10 weeks to Japanese high school students attending Brantford Collegiate Institute from December 9, 2026 to February 16, 2027.

The students will be visiting Canada for an educational and cultural experience, offering local families the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture while sharing Canadian traditions, everyday family life, and the warmth of their community.

Host families play an important role in helping international students feel safe, supported, and at home while studying abroad. From sharing meals and family routines to exploring the local community, hosting creates opportunities for meaningful connections and lasting international friendships.

“Hosting an international student is a rewarding way to make a difference in a young person’s life while bringing another culture into your home,” said Jodi Andersen, Community Engagement, of MLI Homestay. “Families with children, empty nesters, retirees, and individuals living on their own are all encouraged to inquire.”

MLI Homestay is looking for six host households willing to welcome a male Japanese student for the approximately 10-week program. A private bedroom, meals, and a safe, caring home environment are required. Compensation and ongoing support are provided to host families.

One student has allergies to cats and dogs, so a home without these pets is required for that placement.

A welcoming attitude, an interest in cultural exchange, and a willingness to help a student adjust to life in Canada are what matter most.

With the students’ arrival approaching on December 9, MLI Homestay encourages interested Brantford residents to get in touch as soon as possible.
