Local NewsDriver hospitalized after collision on Highway 403

Motorists were delayed for about two hours after a collision on Highway 403, just east of Rest Acres Road, that left one driver with serious injuries on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

OPP West Region posted to social media at 12:07 p.m. saying Highway 403 westbound was closed at Oak Park Road in Brantford due to a two-vehicle collision. Motorists were told to expect delays and plan an alternate route if travelling through the area.

In a video posted to social media that evening, OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m.

“What I can tell you right now is Highway 403 has been shut down since 11:30 a.m. as a result of a vehicle travelling along Pottruff Road, southbound,” he explained. “That vehicle came over the westbound lanes of Highway 403 and came to rest in the centre median.”

The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, said Sanchuk.

Motorists travelling westbound were eventually rerouted. Some were told to turn around and exit the highway via the Oak Park Road on-ramp, while others were directed through a nearby emergency crossover to the eastbound lanes.

The section of highway remained closed for the remainder of the day, reopening at approximately 7:50 p.m.

Sanchuk thanked emergency responders and members of the public for assisting the driver.

“I just want to take this opportunity to thank the fire department, paramedic services, and the good samaritans that stopped to provide assistance to this driver early this morning,” he said. “I’d also like to thank you, the motoring public, for your patience while you had to take the detour routes while OPP continued to investigate this motor vehicle collision.”

No further information has been released.
