After a standoff with police, officers with the Brantford Police Service have arrested the suspect wanted for an April 4, 2026, stabbing.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 8, 2026, the wanted man was located by police barricaded in a Marlene Avenue residence, refusing to surrender. Officers successfully negotiated with the suspect, placing the man into custody at approximately 12:30 p.m.     

During the incident, to ensure the safety of the public, a local school was placed into a precautionary hold and secure which has since been lifted.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of BPS Patrol officers, the Emergency Response Unit, Canine Unit, and Crisis Negotiators, the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.

The Brantford Police Service would like to thank the public for avoiding the area during the investigation, allowing police to safely complete their work. 

As a result of the investigation, Thomas Dean Cain, 41, of Brantford has been arrested and stands charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Harm
  • Disobey Court Order

The accused will be held for a bail hearing.
