City addresses appointment of provincial facilitator

AirportCity addresses appointment of provincial facilitator

Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford, released a statement regarding the appointment of a provincial facilitator in regards to the land surrounding the Brantford Municipal Airport on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

The following is Mayor Davis’ full statement:

“In support of continued collaboration, the Province has appointed the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator to assist the City and the County in planning for the future of the Brantford Airport lands and surrounding area. I welcome the appointment and look forward to working with the provincial Facilitator in a constructive and meaningful way. I would also like to thank the Honourable Rob Flack Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, for taking this proactive step to help both municipalities engage in productive dialogue and move toward a positive outcome for our region.

The Airport is one of the most important pieces of economic infrastructure in our community. It supports aviation services, flight training, emergency response, and a growing sector of aviation-related businesses that contribute significantly to the local and regional economy. The Airport also represents an important opportunity for future employment growth and investment and development activities in the Airport area supports the Province of Ontario’s goals for economic prosperity.

For many years, the City has owned and operated the Airport and has invested significantly in its development and infrastructure. At the same time, the Airport sits within the County of Brant’s municipal boundary, which creates unique challenges when it comes to funding infrastructure and planning for long-term growth.

The City of Brantford’s goal in these discussions is to ensure this critical regional asset is positioned for long-term success and that the governance framework around it supports continued economic growth and responsible infrastructure development.

It is important to emphasize that the City values its relationship with the County. The City of Brantford and the County of Brant share a long-standing commitment to collaboration that enhances service delivery for residents across both municipalities. Through a variety of shared service agreements, our communities work together to provide efficient, cost‑effective, and high‑quality programs that support public safety, social services, and overall community well‑being.

Our communities are closely connected, and both municipalities want to see our region prosper. We believe the appointment of a provincial Facilitator provides an opportunity to review the issues objectively, and work toward solutions that are fair and sustainable for both parties. We look forward to participating in this process and working collaboratively with the County and the Province toward a constructive and mutually beneficial outcome.”
