Slacan Industries employees hit the picket lines

Local NewsSlacan Industries employees hit the picket lines

Employees from Slacan Industries headed to the picket lines on Monday, February 23, 2026.

The workers, who are represented by the United Steelworkers Local 3505, were visited by Brad Ward, President of the Brantford-Brant-Six Nations NDP Riding Association, on Monday, March 2, 2026.

“We have received great community support for our effort to achieve a fair contract. It means a lot to our membership when people like Brad Ward take the time to visit our picket line and offer words of encouragement,” said John Barton, President of Local 3505.

“No one wants to go on strike but sometimes you have no choice. All you want is to make a decent wage, put food on the table, a roof over your head and take care of your families. If you stick together, I am confident you will achieve your goals,” said Ward. “The NDP has always supported the hard working people of Brantford. That is why I am here; to support you.”

Slacan Industries is Canada’s largest designer and manufacturer of pole line hardware, primarily serving the utility and communications market. The company employs 102 people and has been in business for over 100 years.
