Brant Municipal Enterprises Inc. (BME) announced that it is has been awarded the solar photovoltaic (PV) project for the Meridian Centre by the Town of Pelham.
“We are excited to be a part of this important project for the wonderful Town of Pelham,” said Ron Budreau, Executive Director of Brant Municipal Enterprises. “Their investment reflects a commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term energy sustainability, and we commend their leadership in advancing initiatives that benefit both residents and future generations.”
The project represents a total investment of $1.25 million, with $517,376 in funding secured through the Save on Energy Retrofit Program. This incentive reduces the Town’s net cost to approximately $758,800 while significantly improving the project’s financial return. The system is expected to achieve a payback period of approximately 8–10 years and will provide more than 25 years of reduced electricity costs and long‑term budget stability.
Once operational, the system is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 89 tonnes annually, or 2,225 tonnes over its 25‑year lifespan, supporting Pelham’s sustainability goals and responsible use of public infrastructure.
This is equivalent to:
Removing 19 passenger vehicles from the road each year, or
Planting 1,500 trees and growing them for 10 years
Over the full 25‑year project life, this is equivalent to:
Removing 480 passenger vehicle‑years from the road, or
Planting 37,000 trees and growing them for 10 years
