Mandy Samwell, Ward 5 Councillor for the City of Brantford, was elected as Chair of the Brantford Police Services Board at their meeting on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

“It is an honour to serve as Chair of the Police Services Board. I believe strongly in community centered policing and look forward to working collaboratively to ensure strong governance while upholding community trust in public safety,” said Samwell.

Dan Houssar was also elected as Vice-Chair. The current members of the Brantford Police Services Board are:

Chair – Councillor Mandy Samwell

Vice-Chair – Dan Houssar

Member – Mayor Kevin Davis

Member – Allan Lovett

Member – Krupesh Shah

The Brantford Police Services Board consists of two Council Members appointed by resolution of the Municipal Council, one Community Member appointed by Municipal Council and two persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

“I look forward to working closely with Chair Samwell and Vice-Chair Houssar, and the rest of the Police Services Board, as we continue to deliver professional, community-focused policing for the City of Brantford,” added Jason Saunders, Chief of Brantford Police Service.

The Government of Ontario establishes the framework for policing through the Police Services Act. Locally, each municipality maintaining a police service is required through legislation to establish a structure, commonly known as a Police Services Board, through which these standards and regulations are administered.

The Police Services Board is the legal entity and authority for the organization and is ultimately accountable for the proper conduct of the organization’s business. The Board is further responsible for the provision of police services and for law enforcement and crime prevention, generally determined after consultation with the Chief of Police.
