City of Brantford welcomed community members to celebrate the official re-opening of the waterslide at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Over 150 people attended the event which included a Public Swim with upbeat music, pool toys and colouring activities.
“The updated waterslide is a great addition to Brantford’s state-of-the-art swimming facilities, offering exciting recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors to enjoy. The City of Brantford is grateful to receive support from the Government of Canada’s Canada Community-Building Fund for fully funding this project with an investment of $675,000,” said Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford.
Davis, MP Larry Brock, MPP Will Bouma, Brantford Councillors, Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre lifeguards, and day campers, cut the ribbon to officially open the new waterslide to the public.
“The federal government is proud to support these upgrades through the Canada Community-Building Fund. This investment helps ensure that Brantford residents have access to safe, modern, and reliable recreational spaces where families can come together, stay active, and build lasting memories,” added The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure.
The new waterslide is a family-friendly 50-foot enclosed fibreglass curved slide that extends outside of the building and back down into a splash down pool inside.
