On Friday, March 18, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Dalhousie Street toward Alfred Street at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was observed to proceed through a red light, turning left onto Clarence Street, when officers initiated a traffic stop.
In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment along with an open can of liquor in the cupholder of the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples of breath were over twice the legal limit.
Additionally, the driver failed to provide valid proof of insurance for the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with the following:
•Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
•Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code
•Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
•Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
•Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act
•Several Highway Traffic Act violations.
The accused’s license was suspended, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
