More than 110 members of the Grand River Women’s Probus Club met recently to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club.
The club provides fellowship, friendship and fun for retired and semi-retired women in Brantford and Brant County. There are 250 clubs in Canada and 4,000 worldwide.
During the celebration the members heard from President Pam Bamsey, District Director Donna Potoczek, Probus Canada President Martin Buscher and Bernie Neziol of the Brantford Rotary Sunrise Club.
Buscher presented the 25th anniversary certificate to Bamsey.
Neziol pointed out that it was his club that originally sponsored the creation of the Grand River Women’s Probus Club.
A special presentation was made to Linn Cumin who was given a Lifetime Membership Certificate honoring her many years of contributions in a variety of leadership roles.
Honored with a bagpipe procession were founding members of the club who attended the anniversary celebration: Donna Case, MaryAnn Clawsie, Ursula Collins, Yvonne Chenowith, Mary De St. Croix, Eleanor Gloster, Helen James, Gen Lindsay, Marion McClure, Fran DeRosse, Louise McGraw, Gloria Perkins, Ruth Pickard, Sheila Ray, Ruth Smith, Cheryl Turnbull, and Jan Welsh. Those unable to attend were Shirley Draper, Joan Burns and Kathy Bissett.
Also recognized at the meeting were past presidents Marion McClub, Pat VanSickle, Linn Cumin, Pat Ballantyne and Donna Potoczek. Past presidents unable to attend were Joan Burns, Kathy Bissett and Pat McLelland. Past presidents who have died were also remembered: Lyn Oswald, Kathy White, June Szeman and Shirley Green.
The Grand River Women’s Probus Club meets the fourth Monday monthly at the Best Western. Take the leap, come as a guest, meet new friends and have a ton of fun.
