The U-16 Tornadoes were crowned champions after they represented the Brant Youth Volleyball Club at the 2025 Volleyball Canada National Championships in Edmonton from May 19 through May 21, 2025. They used great serving and team defense to capture the gold medal in their tier.
The Tornadoes started off seeded 172/262 teams and advanced to end up 153; an impressive improvement of 19 places over the three-day event.
The Tornadoes opened up the tournament with a straight-sets loss to the Lethbridge Volleyball Club Blue before winning their next two matches to finish round-robin play with a 2-1 record.
In day two power pool action, the Tornadoes started off on a winning note, defeating the Vikings Athletic Club from Camrose, Alberta in three sets. The club continued their winning ways in the next two matches, defeating the Lethbridge Volleyball Club White in straight sets before rounding out day two with a three-set victory over the Raincity Rush from Fraser Valley, British Columbia.
The Tornadoes had a strong start to the playoffs, defeating the St. Albert Sturgeon from Saskatchewan in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals against the Northern BC Ice, where they easily advanced to the championship final with a convincing 25-17, 25-21.
In the gold medal match, the Tornadoes battled RMVC from Bow Valley, Alberta. The club from Brant County took the opening set, 25-22, before RMVC bounced back in the second set, winning by the same score, 25-22. In the third and final set, the Tornadoes battled hard and held on for the gold with a 15-12 third set win.
After dropping their opening match, the Tornadoes went on an eight-match winning streak to capture the U-16 national championship.
