City of Brantford hosted a Strawberry Social to honour adult school crossing guards on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
During the event, the municipality formally announced that the administration of the program will transitioning from the Brantford Police Service to the City in September 2025.
“School Crossing Guards play a vital role in ensuring that families and children travel to and from school safely throughout Brantford,” said Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford. “That is why the City is pleased to be managing this incredibly important program for the community.”
Brantford’s adult school crossing guard’s assist Brantford’s youth in crossing busy intersections before and after school. There are 65 full and part-time guards assigned, twice daily, to 60 locations throughout the City of Brantford.
The event included an award ceremony to recognize crossing guards for their years of service, including:

- Randall Mills – 15 Years of Service
- Susan Hanratty – 10 Years of Service
- Kevin Wills – 10 Years of Service
- Joe Wilson – 10 Years of Service
- Jim Crow – 10 Years of Service
- Janice McQueen – 10 Years of Service
- Lori Grundy – 5 Years of Service
- John Maskell – 5 Years of Service
- Gordon McCaughen – 5 Years of Service
- Cheryl Miller – 5 Years of Service
