Rosie Sicoli appointed Deputy Mayor of External Relations

City of BrantfordRosie Sicoli appointed Deputy Mayor of External Relations

Mayor Kevin Davis appointed Rose Sicoli as Deputy Mayor of External Relations for the City of Brantford on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Davis exercised the strong mayor powers granted under the Municipal Act to appoint Sicoli, who will support the Mayor in leading the City’s efforts in intergovernmental and external relations—a role that has never been more vital given current global trade and tariff uncertainties.

“Rose Sicoli has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to advancing Brantford’s interests across all levels of government,” said Mayor Davis. “As Deputy Mayor of External Relations, she will assist me in the oversight of key initiatives and play a critical role in ensuring Brantford’s voice is heard; especially in this challenging trade environment, where municipalities must be more agile and proactive in protecting local economic interests. The role of Deputy Mayor is essential to address the complexity of the expanded scope of responsibility, and I am pleased to appoint someone as capable and knowledgeable.”

The strong mayor powers, introduced by the Province of Ontario to accelerate progress on key priorities, allow the mayor to appoint a deputy mayor and delegate responsibilities. Mayor Davis emphasized that Sicoli’s appointment is a strategic decision to bolster Brantford’s external engagement, especially considering shifting trade dynamics and growing tariff pressures that directly impact local industries and economic development. The role of ‘Mayor of the Month’ will continue to chair committee meetings, attend community events and other meetings as required.

Deputy Mayor Sicoli brings a wealth of experience in public service and a deep knowledge of municipal governance. In this enhanced role, she will support Brantford’s coordination with provincial, federal, and international partners; advocate for infrastructure funding, economic resilience, and policy alignment; and help guide the City’s external strategy during a period of economic transition. Deputy Mayor Sicoli has previously been involved in these efforts, representing the City at both the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conferences, as well as at Queen’s Park.

“I am honoured by the trust Mayor Davis has placed in me,” said Deputy Mayor Sicoli. “At a time when trade and economic conditions are rapidly evolving, it is essential that Brantford has a strong and coordinated voice. I look forward to assisting the Mayor and working collaboratively with partners at all levels to protect local interests and advance our city’s priorities.”

This appointment reflects the Mayor’s ongoing commitment to strong leadership, strategic oversight, and effective collaboration as Brantford navigates complex economic and intergovernmental challenges.
