Ontario reports over 13,000 new COVID-19 cases today

COVID-19Ontario reports over 13,000 new COVID-19 cases today

Province of Ontario is reporting 13,578 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, January 3.

Officials reported 16,714 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday and a record 18,445 new cases on Saturday. Since Wednesday, the province has reported more than 10,000 cases each day.

Ontario’s rolling seven-day average rose to 14,074, up from 7,550 at this same time last week.

Currently, there are 1,232 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 248 people in intensive care.

On Saturday, the provincial government announced it was no longer going to collect COVID-19 case numbers from schools and child care centres after new testing guidelines were announced last week.

In a memo to provincial school boards, the Ministry of Education says due to recent changes in case and contact management it will “suspend reporting” of COVID-19 cases in schools.
