Nomination period now open for Accessibility Improvement Awards

City of BrantfordNomination period now open for Accessibility Improvement Awards

The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Brantford Accessibility Advisory Committee (BAAC), announced the return of the Brantford Accessibility Improvement Awards on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

The awards recognize and celebrate a person, group or organization that has made, or is in the process of making, a significant contribution towards improving accessibility to accommodate persons with disabilities.

“We want to recognize community members who are removing barriers to inclusion and ensuring the independence, dignity and equity of our citizens,” explained Jenny Sawicki, Accessibility Coordinator for the City of Brantford . “These awards not only celebrate achievements in accessibility, but also inspire ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and barrier free environment for everyone in the community.”

To qualify, online nominations must be received by Monday, March 18, 2024. The City of Brantford Accessibility Coordinator and members of BAAC will evaluate the nominations based on specific criteria that is available online at www.Brantford.ca/AccessibilityAwards/

There are five award categories:

  • Customer Service: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in providing exceptional customer service to persons with disabilities.
  • Transportation: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in advancing access to transportation for persons with disabilities.
  • Information & Communication: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in providing information and communication supports to persons with disabilities.
  • Employment: An organization, business and/or individual that provides meaningful employment opportunities and demonstrates flexible and respectful integration of people with disabilities into their workforce.
  • Built Environment: A building, interior, exterior or outdoor space designed or renovated to eliminate barriers and/or enhance access for persons with disabilities.

The award winners will be announced during National AccessAbility Week, May 26 to June 1, 2024. Nomination forms can be found online at Brantford.ca/AccessibilityAwards/.
