Letter to the Editor – Airport annexation

Letter to the EditorLetter to the Editor - Airport annexation

Brantford City Council is currently planning to annex the Brantford Airport and land around it. One of their plans is to lengthen the main runway at the airport. The current runway is already long enough to land a Boeing 737 jet (not fully loaded). That is a massive aircraft. I would ask what conceivable future they are envisioning that would require a longer runway? This is a huge waste of taxpayer dollars.

Brantford Council needs to work with the County of Brant Council to widen Colborne Street West and Rest Acres Road before they build the West Arterial Road and its bridge across the Grand River. (formerly called The Oak Park Extension). They appear to be creating false urgencies in order to use Doug Ford’s Special Economic Zone designation (SEZ), which allows for reduced regulatory restrictions. This could eliminate more unnecessary tax spending and preserve invaluable city green space.

With the world economy rapidly changing, most major economists are predicting LESS city traffic congestion in the future, not more. Rest Acres Road and Colborne Street West are already scheduled to be widened in the future. First things first.

Sincerely,

Ian Munroe
