County of Brant"Joan Underwood Community Kitchen" revealed during ribbon-cutting for Cowan Community Health Hub

The County of Brant hosted a private event to mark the official ribbon cutting of the Cowan Community Health Hub and thank over 190 generous donors for their contributions on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

“This campaign was incredibly successful because of the generosity of the community,” said Mayor David Bailey. “Because of the community, we now have a state-of-the-art health hub; improving access to health and social services for all residents.”

At the event, a surprise reveal delighted attendees. Donor, Mr. Ron Underwood, made a substantial donation and arranged to surprise his wife by naming the Community Kitchen in her honour; the ‘Joan Underwood Community Kitchen’.

The Underwood Family moved to the County of Brant over 50 years ago.

“For all of those years, Joan and I worked at the 100 year old White Mop Wringer Company in Paris whose company name was changed to Advantage Maintenance Products many years ago,” said Ron Underwood. “We also resided, as a family, for most of these years in Paris. When the construction of the Cowan Community Health Hub was announced, Joan, in particular, was adamant that our family business, Advantage Maintenance Products, and the family be a significant supporter of this new Health Hub. The offer by the Hub fundraising campaign to name the building’s kitchen facilities as the ‘Joan Underwood Community Kitchen’ was greatly appreciated.”

The fundraising goal was $2 million dollars and by the end of the campaign, over $2.4 million has been raised.
